Potty Training (possibly TMI)

Ok, if talking about poop and such grosses you out, just don't read any further.  I contemplated posting this on facebook then decided not to, because there are probably too many people that would rather not read it, and since I know a lot less people read my blog I thought I would post it here just so I could remember it, because I do want to remember it.

So it is not like we are seriously potting training AJ.  He is only 19 months old, and although he has showed interest in going potty, I think it is mostly due to the fact he wants to do everything that his brother does, as well as he loves playing in the bathroom with TP and flushing the toilet.  That said, we did pick him up a little potty so that he could start sitting on it when he wants to "go potty" but with no real intention of seriously training for a little while anyway.

Tonight was bath night and if you are a parent of a child in diapers you probably know the signs of needing to poop.  At dinner, AJ started the red face grunting that he does when he is trying to poop, but of course sitting down in a chair at the table, makes it a little hard to go.  By the time dinner was over and it was bath time he had not actually pooped yet.  Now I know he needed to go, and for someone who has had to clean the poop out of a tub and thrown away all bath toys because of it, I did not want to deal with him going in the tub. So I tried to get him to sit on his potty before he got into the bath.  He did sit for a second and than got back up again ready to be put in the bath, but I insisted that he sit and try a little longer.  He sat again, and then I told him to start grunting, so he did, and low and behold he started to poop.  When he was done he stood up, and he had pooped in the potty.  I got really excited and I said "Look AJ, you pooped in the potty" while pointing at the poop, he turned around and looked and got all distressed and started pointing at the poop and saying "uh oh, uh oh".  I don't think he liked having poop in his potty.  I proceeded to tell him that it was okay and that it was good, and let him flush his poop down the big toilet.  I think he thought it was okay after awhile, but I guess he really did not understand the concept of pooping in the potty at least not until tonight.  Hopefully it helped him to understand and will not deter him from going again, we will see I guess.  If I would have posted anything on facebook it would have said, "My baby pooped in the potty".  Isn't it crazy what excites a mommy.

We had one of those episodes about a week ago, and it's sporadic, but Elisabeth is aware of it, and the magic that happens. It cracks me up what is exciting, too! Yay for AJ!

That is so exciting! Atleast he hasn't tried to play picasso with his poop like Brant did. The poop smell took a couple days to wash off his hands!
